Manus-the book of original drawings-is a “Tryst with Humanity”. 

It touches upon all human emotions and acts in this temporal world. MANUS, depicts fight for righteousness, virtues, various injustices, oppression, genocide, relationships, struggle for dignity and livelihood all across the world. The global scenario is presented here. It takes into account the Syrian war, global migration, social unrest in Venezuela, economic crisis in Greece and Many parts of Europe, farmers suicide in India and in other countries, the inhuman treatment to our poor labourers and daily wagers, protest by the farmers from Telengana, social unrest in India due to political, social and religious polarisation, the business of hatred and intolerance, the danger to the voice of dissent, the rise of militant fascism around the world, innocence being robbed, the insecure life of a commoner in our cities, rise of social intolerance in various parts of the world, individuals' voice for change and the war mongers viewpoint is also addressed through these drawings. Although I have drawn most of the drawings in and around Mandi House area of New Delhi, various global and national issues influenced my thought process. These lines are the lines of our contemporary life. It reflects what is happening around us, right now and right here. Whether one accept it or not, MANUS the book of drawings will always speak the naked truth. Sometimes it tells you the story of the underdog without any specific global marking.

Born out of sheer observation of our daily nuances, laced in satire and social commentary is served in a black and white format to heighten the visual absorption of the playful lines. In year 2012, I conceptualised and started working on these drawings. Years of hard work will be offered to you in the form of this pocket-book. Fluid, playful and sometimes detailed lines are interpreting today’s time. It encompasses the contemporary societal dilemmas faced by us and the individual’s dialogue of survival and triumph through the many hurdles and falls.

In this pocket-book part of my on-going series of drawings titled "MANUS", more than 700 B&W drawings spread out over 780 pages will quiver your senses. It will also carry some pages of writings by the artist as well. With its soft back cover and small format, it will be handy for you even while travelling. The Foreword is written by one of the well-known Art Critic, Art Historian and Writer from India. I will not reveal the name right now. Get your copy of MANUS to enjoy his writing.

MANUS AN ENCOUNTER WITH ART - Short Film

#Manus an encounter with art is a short film shot at Triveni Kala Sangam, 

New Delhi to promote and spread the word for the book by the same title Manus.

 Superb camera work by Sumit Sehgal and masterly edited by Suvankar Nandi.

 Both art graduates from College of Art, New Delhi.

 Presently they are involved with film making and designing. 

Manus, has got more than 700 drawings and few interesting written snippets to enthrall all of you. It will come in a small format of a pocket book. I started working on this art series or art book project in 2012. Mostly done outdoors at Triveni Kala Sangam in Delhi. The person heading the place Mr. Amar Shridharani and his entire staff were very helpful and cooperative.

 I owe a lot to this serene and the most creative place in Delhi for providing me with the space for the creation of the drawings. This short film is shot to generate awareness about the book.

MANUS will carry more than 700 Black & White drawings. A visual biography of our time will be there in your hand in a book format. Working in this project since 2012. Mostly done outdoors, on the spot. All genres of human dilemmas are touched upon. Please feel free to write on the wall of the MANUS page regarding the works.


REQUEST FOR CROWD FUNDING

In this pocket-book, part of my on-going series of drawings titled "MANUS", more than 700 B&W drawings spread out over about 350 pages will quiver your senses.  With its soft cover and small format, it will be handy enough for you to enjoy the book even while travelling. “MANUS” will be your constant companion: a compact visual reference book to engage with humanity and also with the self, in this time and age. It is designed to be a “COLLECTOR’S CHOICE”.   

Looking actively for crowd funding of this book project. I intend to launch this book by March 2018, depending upon the funds I can collect for this project. Amount of Rs. 200,000 lakh (Rupees Two Lakh) will make this book project of 500 copies (limited edition) a dream come true. If the amount is of good standing then I can spend more on the number of copies and quality of the paper. My costs will be for designing, printing, pitching and launching of the book. CREATIVE PAINTING CLASS - NGMA DELHI

One can see the working environment of Creative Painting department of National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi. Its very informal and engaging at the same time. Students feel very involved and immersive with the entire art learning process. They displayed their own work and discuss among themselves. A self analysis is always done by the participating students on weekly basis. Unfortunately the officials responsible for the Sunday Art classes have decided to discontinue with the Creative Painting classes.

CLAY MODELLING SESSION-NGMA NEW DELHI-2017

An experimental clay modelling session with some really creative souls during the Sunday art classes at NGMA, New Delhi. Soumen Bhowmick was the instructor for this session. And this  video documentation was done by Mahima Dhawan.

All the participants had to give shape to their ideas using clay within 5 minutes. Participants were very enthusiastic and did their best to be original with their ideas. Their speed was their main challenge. Every Sunday from 11AM. to 1PM. this CREATIVE PAINTING, Art class used to happen. This section of CREATIVE PAINTING was the brain child of Prof. Rajeev Lochan and started in 2014. Soumen Bhowmick was the first art instructor for this section with NGMA, New Delhi. Creative Painting is a very experimental art section.

Mahima did an excellent video documentation of this short and action filled clay modelling session with her mobile phone. Thanks to her for this video. She herself created some works with clay, shown in the other video documentation of the same session.

LIFE STUDY - COLLEGE OF ART - DELHI

This section is the documentation of the "Study Work" done by students of third year, Applied Art of College of Art, New Delhi in the year 2009. All works done on paper. The display was done in the corridor area of the college. I was the Lecturer for this particular study session at that time. Tried to make it more experimental and out of the box session in art for these students. There was no boundation with the material or the technique used. The performance of each student was stupendous. One hell of a great class.

During the entire three week of study session with all the three sections of second year Applied Art, I was totally thrilled to see the enthusiasm and the eagerness of all the students to learn new approach towards the subject matter. I didn't have to push them much harder. Just guided them to make things in a new and better way. They played with the space and the material to their utmost ability.
